FAQs

What is an upcycle project?

In short, upcycling is to reuse a discarded or unwanted item in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original.

You can upcycle almost anything, such as cupboards, drawers, cabinets, desks, dressers and more!

What are the benefits of upcycling?

Upcycling has a positive impact on the environment, by removing the need to produce new materials.

Today's society is moving away from spending money on generic mass-produced items and instead respecting the value of what we already have around us.

Upcycling has personal benefits too - we update our skillset, have a creative outlet which can in turn be therapeutic and will take pride in the finished article with a real sense of achievement.

How do I start an upcycling project?

Find pieces of old furniture in charity shops, car boot sales, online second-hand sites or even your own attic or garage!

Take a look at our 'Ideas and Inspiration' page to ignite your own creativity.

Be sympathetic to the era of the piece - consider the style when choosing your colours and designs.

What tools do I need before starting my upcycle?

Handy tools to have before you start your upcycle project include:

  • Sander / sanding paper
  • Furniture paint and paint brushes
  • Masking tape
  • Furniture wax and primers
  • Hand-painted ceramic knobs from us!

Are doorknobs universal?

In short, no.

All knobs are different sizes, and may require a certain fixing. Please check the measurements before purchasing.

Do knobs need to match throughout the house?

Of course not!

If your style is more eclectic and vintage, you may prefer to have  mixture of different colours, styles and patterns dotted about your home. However if you prefer a sleek, minimalistic style then a more subtle colour and plain pattern is probably best for you.

Should I use knobs or handles on kitchen cabinets?

This is completely down to your personal style, and the style of your kitchen cabinetry. Swapping out the knobs or handles on your kitchen doors can have a huge impact.

The most common style of cabinet is the 'shaker style' and we believe our knobs would look great with this style of kitchen. Shakers are known for being simple and having clean lines, so simple round knobs work best.
